Introduction to Woodworking

Course Description

This course introduces students to the various kinds of woods used in the industry and offer experience in using selected woodworking tools. Students design and construct two or more projects and may prepare a bill of materials. Correct and safe use of tools and equipment is emphasized. As students advance, they will focus on developing skills in the workshop and becoming familiar with various kinds of wood finishing materials. Advanced students typically design a project, prepare bill of materials, construct, and finish proposed projects.

What are we working on now?

Currently students are working on individual projects of their own choice. Today we started learning about the different hand tools common to woodworking, how to identify then, and their proper use. This lesson and packet will take us a few days to get through. We are also having a quiz on how to calculate quantities of board feet of lumber used on a project on friday!
